Ø Larry Kuckelman discussed the interest of some members for a bus trip possibly to a road basketball game. Also there was some earlier interest in the Oklahoma State football game in 2007.
Ø Jim Mitchell discussed possible dates for the 2007 Catbacker golf and banquet. Mike Steinlage reported that we may be able to again use the Knights of Columbus. The Knights would consider canceling bingo if we let them know far enough in advance.
Ø Larry Kuckelman discussed that we need to get members e-mail addresses to make communication an easier process. It was decided to send out a form allowing people to sign up for a mail list or to get their e-mail addresses to the web site e-mail. Due to the cost and time, it was difficult to send out letters as often as needed for communication.
Ø The group discussed about having meetings in different towns in the county. It was decided to have a meeting this fall in Sabetha.
Meeting adjourned 9:12 p.m.
Finding a Coach
Amazing!! What a crazy couple of months it has been for the Wildcat faithful. After a number of close games, the KSU football season ends with legendary Coach Snyder announcing his plans to retire at the end of the 2005 season. Everything seemed like a tail spin in K-State football history. Suddenly all the memories started racing through Wildcat faithful everywhere. The wins, losses, bowl games, bowl watch parties, snow games, tailgates, road trips, visits by coach to our events, etc. What will happen? Surely one would have thought that it was a plan, a big master plan to pass the torch, the new coach had to be in the mix, a done deal for sure, sit back, and Bill has a plan. Well after tracking the coaching search for a couple of weeks, suddenly it was apparent that Coach Snyder did not have it all planned out. This announcement was one script that was apparently not planned; KSU was truly without a head coach.
Well to the papers and message boards I went, patiently looking for a glimpse of who our coach may be. It had to be Brent Venables, he was seen in Manhattan. Then it was Chuck Long, students seen him at Vanier Complex, he was coming with Venables as offensive coordinator. Oh wait Dana Dimel had a shot. Well needless to say, there are a lot of look a likes out there. It became obvious that there was no one seen, the search was going on and no one had a clue what was taking place.
Then suddenly there was the name of Ron Prince. What!! Who is Ron Prince? What about the Snyder tree. Message came that he was a sharp, up and coming coach that Lee Corso stated two years ago during a Virginia game to remember Ron Princes’ name, he will be a fantastic coach someday. Well it was obvious to me my memory was short.
Well back to the internet I went. Started visiting the web sites researching everything I could find about Ron Prince. I really liked what I found. Smart, well organized, very hard worker, driven, great recruiter, family man, well spoken were some of the comments mentioned to describe Coach Prince. I watched the Virginia video interviewing Coach Prince speaking about the offense and line with my daughter Holly. (11 years old). About half way through the video, Holly states “Dad, I really like him, he seems smart”. I have to say I liked her description; Coach Prince seems to have a real passion for the game. (This video link can be found on the home page of this web site.)
After following our Coach for a week, it appears that he is working on a great staff of assistants that all seem to have good recruiting abilities along with some strong coaching histories. Coach Prince appears to be wasting no time in hitting the recruiting trail.
Thank You coach Snyder for all the memories. What a great ride and thank you for all your hard work. Thank You for taking the time to come see all of us in Nemaha County for so many years. Good Luck to Coach Prince. I hope that success finds you and your family for many years to come!!
